Birchington Residents’ Association. Established 1956 The aim of this organisation is to look after the interests of the people of Birchington. There is very close co-operation and regular contact by some of our Committee with many Birchington organisations including Neighbourhood Watch and the Parish Council. At just £1 per annum for an individual member or £1.50 per annum for a household membership. If you do become a member you will be entitled to attend our very popular one day and half day outings. These outings are all self supporting and prices are set to cover the cost of the social activity only. We also hold coffee mornings on the second Wednesday of every month at 10.30 am at the Village Centre. All these functions are organised by our very able Social Committee. You will also receive our Magazine, which is free to all members, and this magazine contains items of general interest, comments that affect the Village, actions taken by the Executive Committee together with the very useful local adverts. Application Forms available and payments can be made at: The Registrar, Puffins’ Point, The Parade, Birchington. CT7 9LX. Or Tony’s (Butchers). Minnis Bay. Or Bring to the Coffee Morning and enjoy yourself at the same time. How do we achieve our aims? Most important is the quality and versatility of our Executive Committee and their dedication to Birchington. Their connections, knowledge and experience with other organisations are also a great advantage. For example our Executive Committee members are also on the Committees of many Birchington Organisations including:- Neighbourhood Watch, Air Scout Group, Margate Civic Society, Thanet Branch of Kent Association of Parish Councils, and includes Parish Councillors. Our BRA representative to the Parish Council attends more Council meetings than any other organisation. No organisation can wave a magic wand and be able to cure all the problems that arise in an area, but the larger the membership of a lobby group the more clout it has to be listened to by the powers that be. YOUR MEMBERSHIP CAN INCREASE THIS POWER. HELP US TO ACT ON YOUR BEHALF TO KEEP BIRCHINGTON A PLEASANT PLACE TO LIVE IN.
OUR MAGAZINE: The magazine is an essential part of our communication system. It is distributed to your homes by a network of Road Stewards (our Registrar is often seeking volunteers and would welcome enquiries from members to undertake this very valuable work). It is divided into three basic sections. Reports, information and entertainment. REPORTS: consist of the topics, which the Executive Committee has been discussing. INFORMATION: Lets you know the items arising from public bodies (councils) and submissions from other local organisations ENTERTAINMENT: Snippets, poems, stories and quizzes, usually submitted by our members.
OUR SOCIAL COMMITTEE: Coffee Mornings (10.30am every second Wednesday at the Birchington Village Centre) are very well supported attracting between 70 to 80 participants at each meeting. Outings: Some half day some full day. These are very popular and get booked up very quickly, so first come first served. Bookings can be made by post but usually at coffee mornings. One outing per month during You never need be lonely if you enter into the spirit of our organisation.
Or if you feel that: 1. You want support with a civil problem. 2. You want to meet like-minded people. 3. You want to be informed and entertained.
Then join us. For more information contact; The BRA Chairman, c/o R. Walford, 12 Nelson Court, Birchington, Kent CT7 9LH. Phone: 01843 843594. e-mail: nelsonrd@aol.com
